Be a Shepherd Leader

Posted by Dean Gage

Isaiah 33:2 O Lord, be gracious to us; we wait for you. Be our strength every morning.”

What is God’s flock among youIt is any group of people that God has given you to lead and it starts with your familyWhen a man gets married, he automatically assumes the role and responsibility of leadership which go with itToo many men today do not realize that leadership is an ACTIVE process and not a PASSIVE processAdam was a passive and non-shepherd leader and we know what happened to himA Shepherd is always active watching over himself and his flock to provide protection, instruction, guidance and direction and provisionsThis shepherding must be done freely according to God’s will and love and not out of compulsion and dutyThis attitude of leadership has never been more important than in today’s anti-Christian culture.

Be a Shepherd Leader

1 Peter 5:2

Active and effective leadership requires character, courage, tough decision making and sacrificeIt is an exercise in character building, not a popularity contestIt sets the tone of the group or family always remembering that “Team Spirit” starts at the top.  You have to be a leader whom you would want to follow so that your team will follow.  This will flow from your words, actions and exampleIt’s not style, but character and content that make the differenceSo many leaders today are afraid to really lead and make the hard decisions for what is rightUS President Andrew Jackson said, “Take time to deliberate; but when the time for action arrives, stop hesitating and go ahead.”  In the end, leaders who lead like this are those who are respected and followed because there is never a wrong time to do the right thing.  The best advice is to be yourself according to God’s will.  Be an active shepherd that shows his followers how much he loves them and wants God’s best for them.
