II Timothy 3:16-17 “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.”
I have a home library filled with leadership books written by both secular and Christian leaders. I have read and studied them for leading my personal life, my family, my work, and my church. The bottom line is that I really need only one book of leadership – God’s Word. Most of the secular leadership books of any value are those based on the principles of spiritual leadership found in the Bible. These include integrity, courage, vision, attitude, accountability, perseverance, and example. Each of these is interwoven and directly related to support each other. Most every book starts with integrity which means whole or complete and that is exactly what God’s Word is to us. The Bible is a leadership book from Genesis through Revelation of God leading man from start to finish, and it contains the answer to every question in life and leadership.
II Timothy 3:16-17
Just as we research a leadership book to seek guidance, wisdom, and answers to a decision or direction, the Bible already has the answer. It is our God-given instruction manual, and we need to take time to read and study it. When we face a leadership decision, we should filter it through the lens of Scripture and hold to the truth prescribed. We can always trust to “Lead by the Book.” Today, I see many people trying to live and lead by social media, particularly Facebook. The motives are not always pure and are often self-serving, displaying a "me first" attitude, and ego promoting. True leadership for the Christian man is to provide servant leadership for those whom God has given us to lead. Applying the biblical principles and foundations of our Scripture this week will make us a “man of God and leader that is complete and equipped for every good work.” None of us has all the answers and new questions arise every day. Show me a man who has all the answers, and I will show you a man who doesn’t know all the questions. God does, and that is why He has given us His Holy Word and examples to follow so that we can “Lead by the Book.” How are you leading?
