Matthew 19: 4-6 “’Haven’t you read,’ he replied, ‘that at the beginning the Creator “made them male and female,” and said, “For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh”? So, they are no longer two, but one. Therefore, what God has joined together, let no man separate.’”
In the seven decades of my life, I have seen the attacks and deterioration of the home and family including the loss of godly parenting. When I was young, family (not government) was the basic foundation of our society and culture, and we would never have given thought to what we see today. Our culture has lost its moral and spiritual compass for the home and family, and it would take pages to document all the alarming changes related to biblical marriage, gender identity, violence, lack of authority, disregard for law and order and you know the rest of them. Throughout history of man, home and marriage have been fundamental to every culture and society. When marriages and homes are strong, nations are strong and vice versa. History repeats itself because God never changes and does not need to change. We don’t have as much a gun issue as we do a GOD issue.
Matthew 19: 4-6
What are we to do? We are to be the leaders in our homes and families that God has called us to be. From the beginning, it has been God’s idea for marriage and home. He established it with Adam and Eve, and that will never change. Man cannot change God’s laws, but God’s laws should change man. We may not be able to change our national culture, but we can and must impact the culture of our own homes by living a Christ-like example and godly leadership according to God’s Word. Our homes are like a living laboratory following the directions given in Scripture for us to implement and live out. If not, there can be explosions such as we see today. We must lead through obedience and love. Love puts the other person first, and that is what we must do for our wives, children and grandchildren. Leading your home today is the greatest leadership responsibility you have. It’s so easy to get distracted, busy and caught up in the culture around us that we don’t take time to STOP and look at what is really important. We must keep “the main thing as the main thing.” As found in Romans 12:9-10, "Love sincerely. Hate evil. Hold on to what is good. Be devoted to each other like a loving family. Excel in showing respect for each other.” Is this how you are leading your home today? If not, then STOP, take inventory and commit to lead God’s way.
