John 7:37-38 “If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, ‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.’”
This summer with its heat and drought until this week has been one of great thirst for living water and rain. I have 12 acres surrounding my home which was completely burned and dried up with little life remaining. One match would have resulted in a devastating wildfire. Several trees have died from the thirst of water and heat of the world around them. This week has changed everything with the blessing of life-giving rain. My grass has turned green in two days and shows new life due to the welcomed rain. We have been praying for rain and are now giving thanks and praise to God for sending it.
John 7:37-38
Our lives are much like the grass and trees when we need living water to meet our thirst and to revive our drought and deadness. When we feel this way, we must remember that we should come to Jesus and drink of His Word and living water. We will all go through times of thirst and dryness. This is a part of life and living. Just as we pray for rain on our dry and dusty land, we must pray for His living water to come into our lives when we are dry, thirsty and dusty. We can then have a heart flowing with rivers of living water to live and lead as He calls us to do. Just like Jesus gave water to the woman from Samaria who asked him for a drink, He is ready to do the same for us. We must remember his words to her, If you knew the gift of God, and who it is that is saying to you, “Give me a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water.” When our lives are dry and thirsty, He is ready to give us living water. All we have to do is to ask and the river will flow.”
