Men's Weekly Spiritual Challenge

Leaders and Perspective

Posted by Dean Gage

1 Chronicles 12:32 “And of the sons of Issachar, men who understood their times, with knowledge of what Israel should do.”

I have been asked to teach our Men’s Thursday Morning Bible Study next week on the subject of Perspective, which is one of the four battles and failures men face. This Challenge is only an introduction to perspective. Just what is perspective for a Christian man and his leadership? Perspective is our attitude, outlook, mental view, and spiritual lens toward how we look at something, someone, or almost anything in life. Why is it important and what is the failure it can produce in our lives?  The failure is worry and anxiety from the battlefield for our mind and attitude. Perspective is much like attitude in that it determines our behavior and actions. There are two perspectives for the Christian leader. One is the perspective of seeing things through God’s perspective.  This is why the Christian man must have the mind of Christ. The second is seeing things from man’s point of view or the world’s point of view. We have to determine which one we trust, and our choice should be evident.

1 CHRONICLES 12:32

In our Scripture this week, King David’s mighty men of Issachar give us an example of God’s perspective which we should always follow. They were men who had discernment to understand their times and knew what to do. They had discernment and direction. We should be no different today in how we lead and make decisions. We must understand our times in light of God’s Word and then lead with this knowledge of understanding and guidance. We make our decisions from one of two perspectives, either God’s or man’s. God wants to give us His perspective if only we will ask. Here is a promise from Isaiah 30:21: And your ears shall hear a word behind you saying, “This is the way, walk in it.” Our perspective must be to listen, be obedient, and trust.
