Busyness has become one of the greatest threats facing families today, even though COVID has slowed it a little for some people. We rarely give it thought, but time is our most precious resource. It’s not like money or possessions which you may be able to obtain more. It’s also something you cannot make, borrow, save, or extend. Each week, we all have the same amount of time – exactly 168 hours. It is more precious than gold or silver, and a leader must manage it well for himself and his family. A leader should stop each day and each week and ask himself, “Am I using my time in the best way I can for my God and my family?” Time management is one thing that all good leaders do well in every walk of their lives: self, family, career, church, and community. It is also something we must teach and model to our families and children.
COLOSSIANS 4:5
According to a survey done by LifeWay Christian Resources a few years ago, busyness is the third greatest threat against our families. One of Satan’s major strategies is to keep us so busy doing the same unimportant things that our culture is doing so that we don’t have time for the important things in life. We can get so busy that “we busy God right out of our lives.” Rick Warren in Crosswalk said this, “If Satan can’t get you to be bad, he will just get you to be too busy.” Being fast and busy are not always best and certainly not how God works. He is the example of leadership and time management we should follow. Life and leadership are not about trying to cram more activities into an already overloaded schedule. We can do many things that are not bad at all; but they may take time away from doing what is important in God’s eyes. We may need to spend less time on Facebook, and more time in God’s Book. It may well be that we need to do less and focus on what God has for us to do. Lead your life and family in scheduling and doing what is important and lasting in the Christian life. “When we get too busy for prayer, Bible study, and family time, we are too busy.” Who can correct this? YOU!
