Proverbs 22:3 “The prudent sees danger and hides himself, but the simple go on and suffer for it.”
What does it mean to be prudent and why is it important to a leader? “Prudent” means to be wise and judicious and to have the foresight to look ahead and avoid error or danger. This is the role and responsibility of a leader whether looking at their own life or at home/family or work. From the old west of cattle drives, wagon trains and range battles, a scout was sent out to scope out what was in front of them. This important foresight was to look ahead for error and danger and take another route if needed to avoid suffering from taking the wrong path. How does that apply to you and me today? We are to be prudent in our leadership and look for dangers ahead to avoid suffering for those whom we lead.
Proverbs 22:3
How does a leader become prudent with wisdom and foresight? It comes from God’s Word and the constant communication of the Holy Spirit. These are our road maps and GPS of today. If we are prudent, we use these to give us important foresight to look ahead and see dangers to avoid. You are the leader who will determine the paths of your family. You are the leader who does not want them to suffer from the dangers of the wrong paths in life. You are to be the prudent scout who looks ahead and watches the simple go by to a destination of suffering. Are you an active prudent leader? Ask your wife and kids what they think and then lead in a prudent, wise and judicious way. “Remember to never stop learning because life never stops teaching.”
