Deuteronomy 6:6-7 “And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.”
My family just returned from a week in the mountains of New Mexico with our children and grandchildren. All four of our grandkids are students at Texas A&M, and we listened to them describe what they would be studying in their upcoming Spring Semester classes and laboratories. Each of them expressed a deep concern that their lecture classes would not be virtual and their laboratories would be real-life experiences. They wanted to have a real live teacher and mentor to personally share this educational experience. I am sure that each teacher desires the same thing and to prepare the students for their life calling.
Deuteronomy 6:6-7
Jesus was the master teacher and spent three years teaching, mentoring, and developing his disciples for the work ahead of them. They were attending classes as he taught them from God’s Word. They were also learning from the laboratory of life as they saw him ministering to people every day. Every Christian man has these same responsibilities and calling that started with God’s commands in Deuteronomy 6. God’s Word is the textbook that should be on our hearts, and we are told to teach His Words diligently to our children. This is the classroom. We are then told to talk of them in every walk of life or the laboratory of daily living. This covers it all in both words and action. This is how we teach, mentor, and prepare our children to live in the world they face. If we don’t teach them truth, someone else and the enemy will teach them error. This must be a priority for us as given in both the Old and New Testaments. The objective and command are for our generation to reach the next generation. How are you doing?
