Leaders: Communicate, Communicate, Communicate

Posted by Dean Gage

I Thessalonians 5:17 “Pray without ceasing.”

We have all heard the words in real estate, “location, location, location.” When I became Interim President of Texas A&M, I asked the outgoing President what advice he would give me. He said, “Communicate, communicate, communicate.” As our church family has recently focused on prayer and read through the powerful and practical book, 21 Days to Childlike Prayer, it is clear that the message is to communicate to God without ceasing. That is what prayer should be like for us every day. To communicate with someone is a two-way conduit of both listening and speaking. Our prayer should accomplish both of these and probably more listening than we normally do.

 “Leaders: Communicate, Communicate, Communicate”

I Thessalonians 5:17

“Pray without ceasing” simply means exactly what it says. It is a personal relationship with no substitute. What would happen to your relationships if you stopped communicating with your wife or children for days, weeks, or months at a time? There would be a loss of the relationship and trust. There would probably be a divorce also. When we pray without ceasing, we build a relationship and trust with God that has no substitute. It keeps us in a warm and confident fellowship and relationship. We want to hear and communicate with our family members in order to be close. God wants the same from us and it will result in the maturity of faith and partnership in life with him. Leaders are always looking for the directions to lead and make decisions and there is no better way than to communicate, communicate, and communicate with God. This will then provide us the way to communicate with those whom we lead.
