Jeremiah 33:3 “Call to Me and I will answer you, and will tell you great and hidden things that have not known.”
Last week, we looked at a fundamental principle of leadership to communicate as a leader to all those with whom we lead and interact. This week, I want to focus on the basic imperative for the Christian leader which is to first communicate with God. This communication with the Father is a two-way process with our communicating to Him and His communicating to us. He wants us to always communicate and consult with Him on any and all issues and decisions we face. It is then that we can best communicate with those whom we lead, including our families and our work teams. How does this happen? It is rather clear from Jeremiah 33:3 that we are to call to Him and He promises to answer and tell us things that we did not know. This is another promise following a command given in Scripture.
Jeremiah 33:3
When we communicate with God, it is a two-way process where we both talk with God and we listen to Him. We can easily neglect the listening part and just make our plea to Him. God speaks to us in two ways which we cannot neglect. One is through His Word and the other is through His Holy Spirit. It is then that we have the leadership responsibility to be obedient to what He has told us. The great Old Testament leader, Nehemiah, is one of our best examples of this. He fasted and prayed to God for guidance and God’s hand in allowing him to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem. God answered and clearly told and showed him things that he could never have known. He was obedient to what God called him to do and continued an important communication process that he could share with those he led. In a real sense, this was a partnership in leadership. Nehemiah did his part and God did his part which is a model for us to follow. We can’t just pray and tell God that we are just going to sit back and watch Him do what we have asked. We have to be God’s instrument in carrying out His work in the model of Nehemiah. When faced with these kinds of leadership issues, pray and claim Jeremiah 33:3 back to Him. He is faithful. Are you?
