Matthew 6:33 “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”
Another way to state this spiritual leadership principle would be “Leaders Stay Focused.” We see what happens in all walks of life when a person gets distracted and does not stay focused. When I play golf, I notice that my game is off with bad results when my mind is distracted and I do not stay focused. We know how important this is in all sports like catching a football, hitting a baseball, making a 3-point basketball goal, and many more. The number one cause of all car accidents is being distracted; and the results can even be deadly. Academically, we can fail an exam if we are distracted and not focused. We must learn to focus on what is in front of us. As the great former baseball player, Yogi Berra said, “Keep the main thing the main thing.” What is the main thing for the Christian leader and for you?
MATTHEW 6:33
As a Christian man and leader, we are to “Seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness.” This is the main focus that keeps us from being distracted. We are to be focused on Jesus and turn to him first, to take on his character, to serve him, and to be obedient to him and God’s Word in everything. This must be a daily way of life to avoid the accidents and failures in our lives and those whom God has given us to lead. There are consequences in a car accident to both the driver and passengers. When we become distracted as the driver of our family and work, the consequences will impact both us and those riding with us. It can even kill a family or work setting. As Christian men and leaders, we cannot become distracted by the world and culture around us. We must seek him first in all situations and never take our eyes off Jesus. He is the GPS which will guide us to “keeping the main thing the main thing.” He is the main thing to keep us from being distracted. Stay in focus by seeking Him FIRST, NOT SECOND!
