Psalm 119:105 “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” 

Leaders know that the decisions they make can have major consequences and determine the path and success of those whom they lead. These decisions impact their family, their work organization and the lives of all who are a part of them. A wise and godly leader will filter their decisions through God’s Word and think through the pros and cons of each decision and determine what is best for everyone involved. These decisions are also filtered through the setting of the circumstances, the people involved and the resources available. However, the Christian leader must also put these through the filter of what God would have him to do. God’s Word and wisdom must be a part of the process and serve as a lamp and light to make the best decision.

My home sits on twelve acres, and I have a small diesel tractor needed to do many things such as mowing, moving dirt and lifting things. Over the years, I have found that adding diesel fuel to the motor requires careful filtering to insure that only pure and clean diesel fuel is added. If not, impurities will enter the fuel line and motor and cause major problems. What goes in determines the performance and outcome. The motor can become damaged, lose its power and function and no longer lead the arms, wheels and other parts to carry out the overall function. The same is true for us as we must take in pure and filtered fuel into our lives to be healthy, make the right decisions and lead in a Godly way. Our fuel is the Word of God which is the filter for the fuel we intake to lead and function. His Word tells us in both the Old and New Testaments, “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.” We have to have bread which represents the physical world around us. However, we must have the Word of God to live, lead and make an impact and honor Him in all we do. Filter every leadership decision you make in this way, and you will be a leader worth following.
