Hebrews 6:19 We have this as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul, a hope that enters into the inner place behind the curtain.
I spoke at a funeral this morning for a dear Christian woman, and one of the songs she had selected was “The Anchor Holds.” I had not heard this older song in a long time and was reminded of the great message, hope, and promise the lyrics communicated. Here are just a few of the words: “I have journeyed through the long dark night at all life raging seas, by faith alone, sight unknown; yet His eyes were watching me. The anchor holds. Though the ship is battered, the anchor holds. Though the sails are torn, I have fallen on my knees as I face the raging seas. The anchor holds in spite of the storm.” A ship cannot survive unless it has a strong anchor to hold it steady, safe, and stable during a storm. As a leader, we must have a strong and steadfast spiritual anchor to hold us in the storms of life. That anchor is Jesus Christ and God’s Word.
Hebrews 6:19
Every leader and every person face many storms in life which require an anchor to weather the storm to get to the other side. There never will be a problem or storm that we face in which God’s Word is not the answer. His Word is our promise and provides us the steadfast anchor to make it through. It is estimated that there are 8,810 promises in God’s Word, and we have them before us to claim. He is the one dependable anchor regardless how strong the storm and deep the sea. When we face storms, to what or whom are we anchoring our life and leadership? It is not a matter of “if,” but a matter of “when.” Remember the words in the repeated refrain in the song, “The anchor holds though the ship is battered. Though the sails are torn, I have fallen on my knees as I face the raging seas. The anchor holds in spite of the storm.” Question: Is this how you face the storms and trials in life? If not, then your anchor may not hold you safe, secure and steadfast. Find one or more of the 8,810 promises in God’s Word and claim them.
