John 9:4 “We must do the work of Him who sent Me while it is day. Night is coming when no one can work.”

It is so easy for us to live as if each day is a renewable resource and not limited. In part, this is the way to live so that we plan on how we will live tomorrow and beyond. However, night is coming for all of us at some time in the future. Until then, God gives us days filled with many opportunities and ministries. We should view each day as a gift from God and to live it to the fullest in what He has called us to do. We should approach each day like the Psalmist stated to us in Psalm 118:24 “This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.”

Today is NOT a renewable resource. Today is a non-renewable resource and once it’s gone, it’s gone forever. We are all familiar with non-renewable resources, such as fossil fuels, which are natural resources that will run out and will not be replenished in our lifetime. Our days can be defined in the same way so that we must accept each day as a priceless gift that cannot be replenished. We must not waste any day and we should be looking for how God wants us to use it to serve him and lead others. Our challenge is to use each day joyfully, productively and gladly and to lead others to do the same. Our culture today is not reflecting this lifestyle and seems so angry, hostile and uncivil. It is our responsibility to show that there is a different way to live. Vance Havner gave us an appropriate quote: “If we are ever going to be or do anything for our Lord, now is the time.” My parting words to you this week are: “Today is the day.”
