Psalm 46:10 “Be still, and know that I am God.”

We live in a noisy, fast paced and overcommitted world today where peace and quiet seem elusive. Our world is filled to the brim with distractions, interruptions, frustrations and temptations. If we are not careful, we can fall victim to these struggles and stresses of everyday living and leading. They can rob us of our peace and personal time with Christ. He is the source of our peace, sanity, purpose and direction in life, and there is no other. We must be still and give an ear to prayer, the Holy Spirit and His Word. His voice will become louder to us when we get quieter and take time to listen. We have to slow down, be still and claim His peace in a culture that promotes busy, crowded schedules.

We can get so busy that we seem to busy God right out of our lives. A leader cannot be effective, grounded in wisdom and competent unless he learns to take time to be still and know that He is God. I have been in these leadership situations many times in my life at home, work and church. We are not to rush to judgment or make decisions that leave out being still and listening with patience and perseverance to the Lord. We have all heard that we are to “stop, look and listen.” This is great advice and shows spiritual growth and maturity. We must realize that God has us where He wants us for a reason and a purpose. For us to fully live out and lead our lives, we must accept that He is God and knows what is best. This requires us “To Be Still.” As a leader in many different situations, we should pause and be still until God gives us the answer and way we should go. Again, remember: “His voice will become louder when we get quieter.”
