II Chronicles 1:7&10: “God appeared to Solomon, and said to him, ‘Ask what I should give you?’... Give me now wisdom and knowledge so that I may lead these people, for who can govern this great people of yours?”
As a Christian man and leader, you must make many leadership decisions every day that impact all those you lead. You and I are in a leadership position somewhat like Solomon because the people whom we lead are God’s people – family, work, church, etc. God asked Solomon what he wanted as the leader of his people. He had an open account from God to ask for anything. He realized that God had placed him in a position of leadership just like you and me. Solomon didn’t ask for worldly things or prestige, but he humbly asked for wisdom and knowledge.
II CHRONICLES 1:7&10
When God called me to serve as Provost and then Interim President of Texas A&M University, I claimed these verses and asked God each morning to give me the wisdom and courage to make the right decisions both for my family and my work. None of us has all the answers and must depend on God for them. “If you show me someone who knows all the answers, I will show you someone who doesn’t know all the questions.” God is the only one who knows all the answers and his wisdom shares them with us. Wisdom is seeing life and life’s decisions from God’s point of view. In your quiet time each morning before you know much of what you will face for the day, ask God for his wisdom and understanding to lead through whatever may arise. He will go before you as promised and will give you the courage and wisdom to do the right thing. The Bible says in the book of James, “You do not have because you do not ask.” So, just ask in advance like Solomon.
