Psalm 11:3 “If the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do?”
As we look and live in the world of today, I don’t believe that any Christian could deny that our foundations of culture, society and spiritual values are being destroyed. When David wrote this Psalm, he was facing similar turbulent times. Just before verse 3, David made a declaration of his trust in God in whom he took refuge. The advice his people gave him was to flee to the mountains from the enemies lurking for a deadly ambush. What foundations? Foundations is a metaphor for social and moral order. Destroyed depicts a turbulent upheaval of the moral and spiritual values and civil order. It was a culture in which evil prevailed and right was being destroyed. It should remind us of Isaiah 5:20 “Woe to those who call evil good and good evil.” Does this sound like our world today? David was the leader of his people, but they were telling him to run and hide from the enemy and oppressors. As a leader today and particularly of your family, this is what the enemy wants you to do. We must do what David did and the stakes have never been higher for those whom you lead.
Psalm 11:3
What did David do that we are also called to do? In the next four verses of Psalm 11, David affirmed God’s sovereignty and clearly stated that God was in his holy temple, that God’s presence had not moved out and that He was still on his throne. He further stated that God’s wrath and judgment would rain on the wicked and those destroying the foundations. He then stated that the Lord is righteous and that He loves righteous men who will see his face. Men, we must be strong, courageous, unwavering in our faith and lead with the truth of God’s Word and promises. David gives us an example of what to do. We live in an increasingly hostile, angry, uncivil and turbulent world. The enemy has created a confused culture about the sanctity of life, God assigned and ordained gender, Biblical marriage and home. God is not confused and is looking for men to be righteous leaders who will not compromise truth. The future of your family is at stake and depends greatly on your righteous leadership. The good news is that God is looking for you today: II Chronicles 16:9 “For the eyes of the Lord move to and fro throughout the earth that He may strongly support those whose heart is completely His.”
