I John 2:6 “whoever says he abides in him ought to walk in the same way in which he walked.”
God’s plan and desire for us is to have a close and even intimate relationship with Him. In fact, that is the way God designed it for Adam who enjoyed this kind of loving and open relationship until the fall. We also know this by reading God’s Word to see how the relationships He had with his leaders. We can never walk as Jesus did, but we should obediently follow His steps. We must obey His teachings and follow His example of bringing glory to the Father and giving service to others. The Father wanted this kind of relationship by sending His only son. Jesus came to earth so we could know God the Father and have a personal relationship. This is how we walk to develop Christ’s character in our lives.
I John 2:6
God adopted us as His children through salvation and into His family. This relationship and walk are eternal. He is our friend forever who will never leave or forsake us and calls us to walk every step with Him. At salvation, we receive the Holy Spirit as Jesus lives in us. The Holy Spirit and God’s Word become our playbook on how to walk closely with Him every day. Our highest calling is to live and lead for Him all our lives. When we claim to live in Him, our focus becomes an obedient heart to build His character into our lives and walk in a way that honors Him. Our goal or mission should be to walk in such a way that others see Jesus in us and want to follow this example. Most of us wanted to walk in our earthly father’s footsteps, but our higher calling is to walk in Jesus’ footsteps as He did for His Father.
