Joshua 3:7 The Lord spoke to Joshua, “Today I will begin to exalt you in the sight of all Israel, so that they will know that I will be with you just as I was with Moses.

God’s Word is almost like a running description and narrative of God called leaders with Jesus being the perfect leader and our example. To lead His people into the Promised Land, God chose Joshua and instructed him to be strong and courageous. He placed him to be in charge of this responsibility and exalted him before the people he was to lead. Like Moses, Joshua knew that being a godly and effective leader was not about himself and his abilities, but about being used and empowered by God to achieve the task ahead. In Scripture and in respected leaders today, those leaders which I have the greatest respect for are those who are humble, strong and courageous at doing the work God has called them to do. This is the image of a Christian leader.

In Deuteronomy 31:8 just after God and Moses passed the leadership responsibility of leading God’s People, we find these words, “It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not leave or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.” This same promise is yours and mine today as we lead where God has called us to lead and the people He has called us to lead. It will be at home, work and church or any walk of life. Joshua became a godly leader because he learned from Moses and obediently followed God’s guidance. His example is true Christian leadership for us to follow. We need to be like Jesus, like Joshua and like Moses. We need to be a Joshua today in how we lead and we will then become a Moses for those who follow us like he was to Joshua. When we obediently become this kind of a leader, God will be with us just like He was with Moses, Joshua, Jesus and his other spiritual leaders. Just like Jesus said to his disciples, “Follow me and I will make you,” our actual image and life of a Christian leader should be one that others should want to follow. Make it personal, “Are you a Christian leader that your children and grandchildren want to follow?”
