Matthew 4:19 “…Follow Me and I will make you...”
These are the words Jesus said in calling some of his disciples and what he is saying to men today. He is the perfect role model leader that we are to follow and claim his promise that He will then make us. We become like those we follow and must surround ourselves with Godly role models beginning first with Jesus. While other role models can serve as an example for us to follow, they will all have some flaws and weaknesses. Jesus has none and is the standard to always follow. Our lives as leaders should be patterned in such a way that others will recognize us as a role model following Jesus. The Apostle Paul was such an example and said it well in Philippians 3:17 “Brothers, join in following my example and keep your eyes on those who walk according to the example you have in us.”
MATTHEW 4:19
Jesus knew that to lead always involved following and that the two go together. He obediently followed the Father and became the greatest leader in the history of mankind. Men are still following him some two thousand years later. When we accept Jesus, we are to follow him and his example and he will make us the leader we are intended to be. I read the following statement which should be our commitment and goal. We are to: 1) Follow a role model - Jesus 2) Be a role model – You, and 3) Leave a legacy to follow – Your life. Your family and children must see you like Jesus saw and followed his Father. They will learn how to live the Christian life in large part by daily watching how you live as a Christian role model. Are they observing a godly husband, father and grandfather following Jesus? The answer is in your hands, so don’t drop the ball. The future of those you lead is dependent on it.
