What does the Bible says about baptism?

Jesus himself was baptized. He was not a sinner, yet He humbled himself in obedience to identify with us and give us an example to follow.
"In those days Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. Immediately coming up out of the water, He saw the heavens opening, and the Spirit like a dove descending upon Him; and a voice came out of the heavens: 'You are My beloved Son, in You I am well-pleased.'" Mark 1: 9-11
Water baptism is an act of obedience. Baptism symbolizes a believer's faith in a crucified, buried, and risen Savior, the believer's death to sin, the burial of the old life and the resurrection to walk in newness of life in Christ Jesus. (Romans 6:4); (2 Corinthians 5:17).

Why do we baptize by immersion?

The Greek word baptizo (verb) and baptisma (noun) are used in the Bible and generally understood as meaning "to plunge, dip, immerse" or literally "surround" something in water.
Baptism by immersion seems consistent with biblical passages. John was baptizing people in the Jordan River (Mark 1:5). Jesus is described as "coming up out of the water" in His baptism (Mark 1:10). John 3:23 argues that John baptized "where there was much water." Philip baptized the Ethiopian by going down into and coming up out of the water (Acts 8:36-39).
Immersion is a powerful symbol of your new life as a Christian. We bury the “old life” and we rise to walk in a “new life.”

when to be baptized

Baptism is only for those who have voluntarily put their faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. The New Testament records that baptism always followed conversion, never preceded it, and was not necessary for salvation (Acts 2:1-41; 9:36-39; 16:30-33).
Every person who has made the decision to believe in Christ can be baptized. When Paul writes to the believers in Rome, he assumes that all of them have been baptized (Romans 6). The one requirement for baptism is belief in Christ!
“But when they believed Philip preaching the good news about the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, they were being baptized, men and women alike.” (Acts 8:12)
We believe in baptizing children when they are old enough to understand what it means and make a personal declaration of faith.

How do I get baptized?

To schedule an adult baptism, contact Robin Wiese, senior pastor assistant, at 979.776.9977 ext 201 or .
We encourage parents to bring children 5th grade and younger to meet with Randy Wilson, Discipleship Minister, prior to baptism. Depending on age and maturity level, most children will be given a short Bible study to be completed independently. The Bible study is designed to solidify a child's understanding of what it means to be a follower of Christ. Baptism is typically scheduled following completion of the Bible study.
